We are seeking a Device Physics Scientist to work for a technology company in Cambridgeshire developing optical-electronics devices.

JOB PURPOSE:

- To improve the performance of biosensor devices/transducers and reader by correlating materials properties and process parameters to transducer performances.
- To evaluate new technologies in emerging applications in biosensor systems.
- Using the improved understanding in these areas, to aid development of new device structures and designs with improved limit of detection, reliability and dynamic range.
- Provide advice and generate ideas on applications, technology benchmarking and synergies as well as features that will enhance the potential of company technology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and execute experiments to evaluate the performances and the potential of materials in biosensors, for example, Nanoparticles, fluorescent or phosphorescent emitters.
• Design and execute experiments to correlate material and process parameters to device performances.
• Develop new characterisation techniques and novel device structures for emerging areas in biosensor technologies, using OLED/OPD technology.
• With the help of modern statistical tools support the identification of correlations between materials properties, processing parameters and device performances.
• Generate and develop proposals for new or enhanced applications and synergistic technologies to enhance the commercial attractiveness of the company's technology.
• Communicate effectively with the other Research team members within the group and wider company to promote internal discussion and strive towards consensus on current best practice.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

• PhD or equivalent relevant research experience in Physics or Material Science.
• Relevant experience in electrical (circuit design) and/or optical characterisation (spectroscopy) in semiconductor or organic device physics.
• Relevant experience in clean room device fabrication would be an advantage.
• Working knowledge of organic and/or inorganic small molecule/polymer device analysis and statistical methods would be an advantage.
• Programming experience (e.g. Lab view) and experience in setting up and troubleshooting new characterisation setups (e.g. interfacing Keithley SMUs, spectrometers, rotation stages etc.) would be an advantage.
