Inventory Manager

Northamptonshire - Salary £25,000-£30,000

We are seeking an Inventory & Service Manager to work for an international chemical manufacturer based in Northamptonshire.

This position will be offered as a fixed term contract for 6 months.

The role holder will focus on stock management for the product range and will need to work with other key departments in order to maintain appropriate stock levels and keep overstocking / aged stock to a minimum.
Candidates need to have excellent Excel skills, as a significant proportion of the role involves creating, maintaining and manipulating excel spreadsheets. Strong numeracy and data analysis skills are also essential, in order to accurately understand and interpret complex sales and stock data.


Main Responsibilities:

1. To be ultimately accountable for stock levels, values and service.
2. To work with the sales teams to ensure changes in customer demand are reflected in the stock levels and re-order levels within the system. To use the forecasts provided by the business and sales history to review stock levels and change as appropriate, with the goal of achieving set stock availability targets.
3. To provide clear, accurate and timely information and direction to the Planning and Manufacturing teams and ensure effective Sales and Operations processes (e.g. local partnership meetings, planning meetings etc.), in order to provide the right level of customer service to be competitive, while optimising plant utilisation and cash value tied up in stock.
4. To fully optimise stock control systems, monitor and investigate shortages in actual stock levels, instigate corrective action to prevent stock outs and identify ways of reducing number and volume of retests.
5. To produce accurate and timely KPIs to measure stock accuracy and availability, and to report on KPIs and OTIF delivery performances as and when required. To administer the forecasting system, ensuring that sales staff complete all required tasks and that all data is accurate and up to date, making necessary changes as appropriate.
6. To work with the Planning and Product Management teams and distributed product suppliers to identify appropriate stock reduction measures for all products (including Ancills & Reinforcements), whilst still meeting agreed customer service levels and complying with distribution agreements.
7. To work closely with and give direction to relevant colleagues to ensure efficient stock control and purchasing processes of Distributed products. To create and manage systems for current and new suppliers of distributed products with a clear objective to improve delivery lead-times, agree special requirements such as packaging specifications and lot size requirements etc, keep track of supplier performance levels and take any required remedial action, with input from the management team as required.

Skills and Experience Required:

1. Significant experience within a stock management role, preferably from a distribution background.
2. Strong analytical, data handling and numeracy skills to quickly and accurately interpret and effectively utilise complex sales and stock data for stock level setting and stock reduction programs.
3. PC proficient with advanced Excel skills, strong general computer skills (i.e Word, Powerpoint etc) and the ability to quickly and effectively learn and apply new systems.
4. Experience of working in the manufacturing (preferably chemical) industry.
