Commercial Development Manager
Cambridgeshire - Salary £50,000-£60,000
We are seeking a Commercial Development Manager for a technology company specializing in the development and commercialization of optical electronic devices.
Job Responsibilities:
• Identify and evaluate new technology ideas and opportunities according to the company criteria with a focus on the business potential and market-led justification and with critical insight to the technological aspects of the proposals.
• Carry out supporting market studies for new technologies, application and product ideas, utilising input from a range of sources including market trend analysis and the evaluation of customer needs.
• Provide market and competitor intelligence in a broad range of sectors
• Clearly assess how the Intellectual Property landscape influences the market.
• Conduct simple cost-benefit analysis of new ideas and technologies and, in combination with value chain analysis, recommend target position in the value chain. Develop exploitation scenarios and assess target cost points for materials and/or technologies.
• Assist in the preparation of early phase research documentation to ensure timely and valid decisions regarding new technologies can be effectively made. Ensure information covers all the aspects required according to project proposal processes.
• Respond to incoming requests for information in a professional and creative manner.
• Represent company at industry events, conferences and new business events and organise participation at agreed trade shows and events.
• Edit company literature, product and technology profiles and continually maintain and develop the company website
Skills Required:
• Experience of value-chain analysis within the high technology (high-tech) industry and experience of identifying optimal position within the value chain for new products and technologies.
• Market assessment experience in identifying market drivers and combining commercial intelligence with identified customer needs to propose new high value-added products and technologies.
• Proven track record of making sound business and market-led recommendations in a high-tech innovative R&D environment is essential.
• A PhD in the physical or biochemical sciences or equivalent industrial research experience in the physical or biochemical high-tech sector is essential.
• A MBA from a recognised business school with experience in a commercial, customer facing role within the high-tech sector is an advantage
• Experience in the preparation of business cases for investment utilising technical and commercially based recommendations within an R&D environment.
