Senior Substrate Engineer

Cambridgeshire - Salary £40,000-£45,000

A technology company in Cambridgeshire is seeking a Senior Substrates Engineer

JOB PURPOSE

To be responsible for the design and production of substrates to support all R&D activities. This involves supervising the coordination of novel and standard substrate production in close collaboration with project teams. The role also requires supervising the design of new masks, standard process troubleshooting, and providing line management to the Substrates and Test teams. When required, this position holder will be expected to specify and commission new equipment for substrate production.

KEY DUTIES:

• Ensure there is an adequate supply of standard and novel substrates to fulfil the requirements of the different research projects.
• Provide line management to the Substrates and Test teams.
• Ensure variation in standard processes are identified and resolved with minimum impact to substrate supply.
• Ensure the requirements for new substrates and substrates design are met in a timely manner.
• When the R&D requirements cannot be met by existing equipment these can be solved through external interaction or new equipment purchase.
• Working closely with the equipment team to specify and commission new equipment and minimise disruption by supporting a robust preventive maintenance program.
• Ensuring accurate and traceable documentation of procedures and processes.

2. KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

• Educated to at least Degree level, potentially with a PhD, in Materials Science, Physics, Engineering or a related discipline with significant relevant experience gained in an R&D environment.
• Significant experience of photolithography, ideally involving flexible electronics.
• Strong experience of managing a team (minimum of 4 members of staff) is essential.
• Excellent line management and leadership skills.
• Experience of developing new etch processes, both wet and dry.
• Experience in process control is essential, for example, experience using SPC, 6-sigma and DOE.
• Track record of successful equipment specification, selection and commissioning is essential.
• Expertise in mask design is an advantage.
